The CDCP is a federal program administered by Health Canada, delivered through Sun Life, with applications handled by Service Canada. It covers a portion of the cost of preventive, diagnostic, restorative and other eligible dental treatments for Canadians without private dental insurance.

Who is Eligible for the CDCP?
You may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan if you:
- Adjusted family net income under $90,000
- No access to private dental insurance, through an employer, pension, group or purchased plan, even if you decline it or don’t use it
- Canadian resident for tax purposes
- You (and your spouse or common-law partner) have filed your previous years tax return

What Dental Services Are Covered Under the CDCP?

What will I actually Pay?
Two things determine your cost. First, your co-pay tier, set by your adjusted family net income:
- Under $70,000 – CDCP covers 100% of eligible fees, no co-pay
- $70,000 to $79,999 – CDCP covers 60%, you pay a 40% co-pay
- $80,000 to $89,999 – CDCP covers 40%, you pay a 60% co-pay
renewing your CDCP Coverage
CDCP coverage isn’t automatic year to year. Each benefit year ends June 30, and members must renew to confirm they still meet the eligibility requirements. Renewal windows open each spring, and you’ll need your prior-year tax return filed and your Notice of Assessment from the CRA before you can complete it.
If you miss the window, you can still apply as a new applicant, but you may have a gap in coverage, and the CDCP won’t reimburse treatment received during that gap. If you’re not sure where your coverage stands, call us at (519) 836-5110 and we’ll help you check before you book.
Booking Your Appointment as a CDCP Patient
- Tell our front desk you’re a CDCP patient when you book, so we can review your coverage before you arrive
- Bring your CDCP member number and a piece of ID to your first visit
- We’ll confirm what’s covered, what your co-pay is, and what you’ll owe before any treatment starts
- If you need more care than your benefits cover in one year, we’ll phase your treatment so the most urgent work comes first
- We can explain how to apply for the CDCP, but applications go directly to Service Canada, we can’t submit one for you.
- We bill the CDCP directly, so there’s no paperwork for you and nothing to claim back.

Once you’re approved, Sun Life will send you a welcome package with your member number and your coverage start date. Bring that number to your first appointment and we’ll take it from there.
